Year 1 and preparatory class enrolment – details

Catchment areas

There are two primary schools in Chýně: ZŠ Chýně (us) and ZŠ VIDA (the other primary school in Chýně). Each school has its own catchment area.

FOR ENROLMENT IN JANUARY 2026, THE OPATOVKA AREA IS IN THE CATCHMENT OF BOTH OUR SCHOOL AND ZŠ VIDA.

Information on admission to ZŠ VIDA

You can apply to both schools, but a school whose catchment you are not in may not accept you if it is full.

Online application for ZŠ CHÝNĚ

You can register and fill in the online application here (online registration opens on 15 January 2026). If you cannot register online, you can still come on the dates given without registering in advance.

Step by step

To enrol for primary education, first fill in the online application for admission to Year 1 and, if you plan to request a deferral, also the deferral request. Fill in the application even if you are requesting a deferral. You will then receive the application as a PDF by email. Print it, sign it and bring it to the school in person on the day of enrolment. As part of the online application you also book a day and time to visit the school on 10 or 11 February. The system will give you a registration number, which will be used to publish the enrolment results, so make a note of it.

Part of the application is filled in online, and part you complete in the PDF after it is generated, or by hand after printing. By hand you add information about friends your child would like to be with in Year 1 (we cannot guarantee that we can meet these requests).

The application is only submitted once you deliver the signed paper copy to the school on the day of enrolment (or send it via data box with an electronic signature). The 30-day period for issuing a decision starts on the day of enrolment.

How do we decide on admission?

The head teacher decides on admission based on correctly completed applications for admission to primary education and on the admission criteria met, taking into account the school's capacity, space and staffing.

How do we put children into classes?

We deliberately do not keep the groups children were in at nursery school. When dividing children into classes, we consider the balance of boys and girls, children with and without a deferral, and children with a recommendation from a counselling centre. We try to create a group that works well and is balanced. We try to make sure every child has at least one friend in the class whom you name in the application. You cannot choose the class teacher.

What happens after enrolment?

A list of accepted children by registration number will be published on the website. The written decision on admission can be collected at the school. A decision not to admit a child will be sent by post to the address given in the application.

If your child is accepted and you decide that they really will start at our school, you MUST SUBMIT THE ENROLMENT SLIP (ZÁPISOVÝ LÍSTEK) TO THE SCHOOL BY 31 March.

The parents' meeting for future Year 1 pupils will be held on Monday 15 June 2026 at 17:00 in the school hall, Bolzanova 800.

Deferral and early enrolment

During enrolment you can make a written request to defer your child's compulsory school attendance by one year. Fill in and send the online application for admission (see the link above). The system will give you a registration number, which will be used to publish the enrolment results. Attach a recommendation from a school counselling facility (we work with the educational and psychological counselling centre in Kladno, but you can choose another one) and from a specialist doctor or clinical psychologist.

You will receive the deferral request form by email together with the application for admission. Deliver the printed and signed forms to the school.

Would you like to enrol a child who turns six only during the school year 2025/26, i.e. by the end of June 2026 (early enrolment)?

Fill in and send the online application for admission (see the link above). The system will give you a registration number, which will be used to publish the enrolment results. Then print and fill in the written request for early school start (žádost o předčasný nástup do ZŠ) and attach a recommendation from a school counselling facility (if the child turns six between September and December of the school year 2025/26), and also a recommendation from a specialist doctor (if the child turns six between January and June of the school year 2025/26).

What children should be able to do before starting school

Enrolment is not an "entrance exam". It is a simple conversation. We do not test the child; we only find out the level of their pre-school skills. Below we list what children could be able to do, but we definitely do not expect you to prepare your child specially for enrolment. We also know that enrolment is stressful for a child, and there are still 5 months of development before September.

If you would like to make sure everything is on track, you can look at the presentation "A Successful Start at School" (Úspěšný start do školy), which is used at our meeting with parents of pre-schoolers. Ask your child's nursery school teachers, or book an appointment at an educational and psychological counselling centre.
